NEW YORK, Dec. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Health launches the "Must Eat List," a multiplatform franchise that educates consumers on navigating the complex food landscape. It serves as a comprehensive guide to healthy packaged and fresh foods found in grocery stores nationwide. As the ultimate authority on wellness and nutrition, Health is vetting thousands of new and existing products perceived as natural and good-for-you and revealing the foods that really deliver.
"Our goal is to better educate consumers on making truly smart choices at the supermarket," said Health Editor-in-Chief Ellen Kunes. "Health is gearing up to provide healthy, delicious recipes and smart eating plans using these 'Must-Eat List' foods."
With the assistance of a panel of leading nutrition and food science experts, Health editors have established a set of criteria and will evaluate packaged and fresh foods and beverages to create an expanding list of grocery items worthy of being called a "Must-Eat." View the criteria here: www.health.com/must-eat-criteria. Health magazine's panel of "Must-Eat List" experts includes:
Adam Drewnowski, PhD: Director of the Center of Public Health and Nutrition and the Center for Obesity Research, Director of the Nutritional Sciences Program, and Professor of Epidemiology, the University of Washington in Seattle.
Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD: New York Times best-selling author and Contributing Nutrition Editor for Health magazine.
Walter Willett, MD: Professor of Epidemiology and Nutrition and Chair of the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health.

To make the "Must-Eat List," a food or beverage must be free of ingredients that may be harmful to your health, and at the same time contain one or more nutrients that have been scientifically proven to promote good health. Product submissions will also be evaluated on taste.
