Hello NYC Ready for Landrush Phase of .NYC Domains

NEW YORK, July 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Hello NYC, an official registration service for .NYC domains, has announced that the site www.hellodotnyc.com is ready and receiving orders for the Landrush phase of the .NYC domain registration launch. Landrush phase is an early bird access stage for all New Yorkers that allows anyone the possibility of requesting a .NYC domain name before the general public rollout of the domains, scheduled for Oct 8. For the first time, anyone in New York City has the ability to own a digital piece of the city, by purchasing a domain ending in .NYC (www.example.nyc).

The Landrush phase allows New Yorkers to search and place an interest request on available .NYC web addresses. Applicants that take advantage of this early stage get a higher priority than those that wait until October 8, the date in which the public rollout will take place. If two or more people apply for the same domain name, however, an auction will be held to determine the ownership.

According to Gerardo Aristizabal, director of Hello NYC, this is an unprecedented opportunity for New Yorkers to invest in prime digital real estate. Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the .NYC expansion in his first major keynote address to the tech community last May.

This domain expansion, starting in 2012, opens up websites beyond the current top level domains, .com, .org, .net, .edu and others, to include new and unique top level domains such as .NYC, .berlin, and even .pizza. .NYC has been one of the most anticipated extensions in this process.
