Helping Homeowners Avoid A Repeat Of Last Winter's Storm Damage, MAPFRE Insurance Launches Consumer Education Campaign
WEBSTER, Mass., Dec. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In an effort to help prevent against the threat that major winter storms pose to homeowners, MAPFRE Insurance, the leading provider of home and auto insurance in Massachusetts, has launched Winter Prep '16, a consumer education campaign.
The Winter Prep '16 campaign includes a dedicated page at www.mapfreinsurance.com/winter, which offers videos and information regarding ice dams, frozen pipes, winterization and steps that people can take to stop these risks before they occur. In addition, the page includes information and tips for safer winter driving. Winter Prep '16 includes outreach to customers through informational emails, Facebook and Twitter (#prep4winter) and an advertising campaign to promote awareness. The materials were also provided to MAPFRE's network of local independent agents so they can utilize the information with customers as well.
"While this past winter was perhaps the worst on record, major winter storms are a reality in New England," said Jaime Tamayo, President and CEO of MAPFRE North America. "At MAPFRE, our focus is on helping our customers when they need us most. The Winter Prep '16 campaign can help homeowners prepare for the inevitability of winter weather, and if problems should arise, MAPFRE will be there to take care of our customers."
MAPFRE's agents have expressed their strong support for the initiative. AAA Northeast's Senior Vice President of Insurance, Frank Doyle, said "we applaud MAPFRE Insurance and its efforts to help customers and our members protect their properties and have included this campaign material on the AAA website in an effort to spread the message." Mr. Doyle noted that "taking steps to ensure that your home is updated appropriately to withstand New England winters can be difficult if you don't have the right information or know who to call for assistance."
Bruce Cochrane, President of Renaissance Alliance, a network of New England independent insurance agencies, said, "As independent insurance agents, we try to help our customers do the best they can to prevent adverse effects from winter weather. When insurance carriers offer agents and customers preparedness information in engaging and useful ways, it's a real benefit to everyone. We appreciate the effort MAPFRE Insurance put in to provide our agents and customers with the necessary information to get through the winter months as safely as possible."
In 2015, New Englanders were hit with historic levels of snowfall and abnormally cold temperatures, which resulted in substantial damage to homes across the region. MAPFRE alone received more than 28,000 total ice dam claims from the 2015 winter, which is three times the amount of such claims the company has ever received in any one year. With appropriate preventive measures, winter storm damage can be avoided, and MAPFRE has launched its Winter Prep '16 campaign to provide homeowners information on how to protect their homes in advance.
