Heston Blumenthal surprised and delighted shoppers at Westfield Stratford yesterday (Wednesday 19th March,) with a free cup of perfectly brewed Tea. Unsuspecting shoppers were tempted to the machine with a 'Free Tea' button. This button - when pressed - revealed the iconic British chef making the perfect brew with the Sage by Heston Blumenthal Tea Maker.

Shoppers were also invited to sit down and enjoy the perfect tea experience - complete with waiter table service and entertainment from classical musicians.
Heston, comments: "We are a nation of tea-lovers. And for too long making great tea has come second to making great coffee. It's been brilliant to surprise people with great tasting tea. I think people have been really shocked about just how special it can be."
The majority of those questioned on the day did not know the correct temperature to brew tea or how long to brew for to achieve the perfect taste.
Heston explains, "Green tea is best at 80 degrees for 2 and a half minutes, whereas your usual black tea is best at 100 degrees for 2 minutes. Any longer than that and at the wrong temperature will destroy flavour balance. Brewing tea too hot or for too long pulls tannins from the tea leaf which results in a bitter after taste. Luckily, I've had the clever Sage Tea Maker with me today, which does all of the thinking and work for me - at the press of a button."
