REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Feb. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Saddled with sky-high student loan debt and a difficult job market, there's no doubt that today's generation of young investors is faced with increasingly complex financial challenges. And many aren't prepared to manage the responsibility — recent studies show that the majority of young people in the U.S. have poor financial literacy.
Fortunately, members of the financial services industry are committed to reversing this trend by supporting organizations dedicated to educating youth and empowering them to make smarter decisions for their financial futures. Hewins Financial | Wipfli Hewins (Hewins), a national, CPA-based financial advisor, is one firm dedicated to this movement, most recently through the launch of its first-ever holiday charity campaign.
In December, Hewins teamed with clients to contribute to three charities focused on financial literacy and youth development: Junior Achievement USA, Operation Hope and International Youth Foundation. Replacing its previous process of distributing physical cards, Hewins sent holiday eCards that gave clients the opportunity to place individual votes for the charities they would like to support. At the end of January, Hewins will donate a total of $3,000 on clients' behalf and will divide a percentage of those funds between the three charities, based on the votes received.
