High Tech Central and Turbine Generator Maintenance (TGM), Inc. - Partners for Career Training in Lee County

CAPE CORAL, Fla., Jan. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In September of 2011, a partnership between Lee County High Tech Center Central and Cape Coral business, Turbine Generator Maintenance Inc., was formed to create a new program called "Turbine Generator Maintenance, Inspection and Repair."

A special dedication to the program, which includes the construction and presentation of a 2.5MW condensing turbine generator, will take place during TGM's bi-annual Operations and Training Seminar, January 26th at 2:30pm at High Tech Central Main Campus, 3800 Michigan Avenue, Fort Myers, FL 33916.

HTC acquired the used steam turbine generator from the power plant at the University of Portland, OR, and it was refurbished at TGM's Training and Logistics Center in Knoxville, TN. It will be shipped in pieces to the HTC Fort Myers Main Campus this week, and the students enrolled in the new program will be receiving invaluable hands-on training by putting it together as a permanent training tool.

Although small, this particular turbine generator is representative of much larger units used in power plants throughout Florida and the US. High Tech Center Central Director, Bill McCormick, commented, "Because we are doing this in partnership with a Cape Coral business, the students will be getting internships with the company, so they can go out into the field and get hands on experience." Thirteen students are enrolled in the new program which was designed to apprentice individuals into the rewarding and well-paying turbine generator industry.

TGM is committed to growing high quality turbine and generator services throughout the Western hemisphere and is excited to work with Lee County schools to train students in the critical power industry. The key to TGM's success, according to President and CEO David Branton, is "having the best qualified people, the best tools, and very specific work processes that allow us to work efficiently and get the job done right the first time." Together, HTC and TGM are creating positive and far-reaching ripples in the community.
