High-Tech in Taylor: SRG Global Opens Advanced Development Center
R&D Center will explore future of coating technologies for global market
WARREN, Mich., May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- SRG Global Inc. (www.srgglobalinc.com), one of the world's leading providers of advanced, high value coatings on plastics for the automotive, commercial trucking and household appliance industries, has officially opened its Advanced Development Center (ADC). Kevin Baird, president and CEO of SRG Global, made the announcement today.
The ADC, located in Taylor, Mich., allows SRG Global to develop the next generation of coatings for plastics in a manufacturing setting, thereby speeding development, testing and time to market.
"We are pleased and excited that the ADC is now operational," said Baird. "It is the culmination of meticulous planning that will allow us to conduct the most advanced research possible, and test the results of that research in a real-world setting. We are most excited, though, about the benefits that the ADC will provide to our customers around the world."
The ADC comprises a 46,000-sq.-ft. facility housing state-of-the-art laboratories, a chrome plating line and four injection molding presses to create parts for coating and testing. In addition, the ADC will be capable of producing custom, limited run parts for use on concept vehicles to be displayed at auto shows and introduced to the media.
"The products we produce contribute directly to a vehicle's DNA," said Dave Prater, vice president, Product Engineering and Development for SRG, whose responsibility includes oversight of the ADC. "In discussions with automotive designers around the world, we have learned that there is a strong desire to partner with a company like ours that can create innovative finishes that allow increased flexibility in the design and development stage. Our goal is to begin creating those finishes, using customer input as a foundation, well in advance of the concept vehicle stage."
Specifically, the ADC will house a chrome plating line, four injection molding presses ranging in tonnage from 165 tons to 2,200 tons with a capability of producing small emblems and name plates to the largest truck grilles, and End Item Testing and Electro Plating Wet Laboratories.
An initial multi-million dollar investment provided for infrastructure development, additional equipment and equipment upgrades, and to equip the laboratories. Personnel will consist of skilled technicians, engineers and scientists, and is expected to grow proportionately as the ADC becomes more active.
