Historic Sports Collection Is Going Mobile...and You Can Help Make It Happen
Sports Immortals® launches funding campaign on www.indiegogo.com for its Mobile Museum Experience
BOCA RATON, Fla., Jan. 28, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Sports Immortals® is launching its highly anticipated crowd funding campaign today on www.indiegogo.com/sportsimmortals to raise funding for the development of its first planned project, the Sports Immortals® Mobile Museum Experience. This immersive traveling exhibition will traverse the country stopping at major sports events, state fairs, universities, heavily attended shopping centers, etc. Featuring a selection of historically significant artifacts coupled with the most interactive multimedia technology, this literal "Hall of Fame" on wheels will take visitors on an inspirational and entertaining journey through sports history – honoring the pinnacle of athletic achievement – from the earliest record of sports to the contemporary heroes of today.
"We have always wanted to garner the public's support of our effort to preserve the memories and achievements of the world's greatest athletes," said Jim Platt, Vice President of Sports Immortals®. "Now through Indiegogo.com, the largest global crowdfunding platform in the world, individuals have the opportunity to assist the project through financial contributions and through social media."
Sports Immortals® is by far the largest and most extensive collection of sports memorabilia in the world. The collection is revered by collectors and sports historians across the globe with artifacts ranging from Babe Ruth's Home Run Trophy from 1927, Michael Jordan 's rookie jersey, Lou Gehrig's 1927 baseball glove, Muhammad Ali 's 1960 Olympic sweatshirt, Jim Thorpe 's Carlisle Indians football jersey and the extremely rare Honus Wagner "T206" baseball card. The Sports Immortals® collection, owned and curated by Founder, Joel Platt, has been recognized by the Smithsonian Institution as "absolutely the most outstanding single collection of all sports" and Leland's Auction House has called it "The finest sports collection in the world...bar none."
"Our campaign definitely offers some unique and exciting extrinsic Perks based on various levels of funding," said Joel Platt, President of Sports Immortals®. "But, the real intrinsic benefit to the donors is knowing they are actively participating in the development a project that will be cultural, historical, educational, inspirational and most of all entertaining. It will be a "must see" attraction for the whole family."
Joel Platt's collecting journey began after being injured in a gasoline explosion at the age of four and his parents began buying him baseball cards to help entertain him during the long days of recovery. Since then, Joel Platt has spent six decades curating sports mementos from the worlds of baseball, football, basketball, boxing, hockey, tennis, golf, soccer, horse racing and the Olympics that will serve as the nucleus for the development of numerous Sport Immortals® Projects, including the Sport Immortals® Hall of Fame Complex, Traveling Exhibitions, Movies, Documentaries, Books and Merchandise.
"The Sport Immortals® team is excited to be working with IndieGoGo because of its industry leading global platform for raising substantial funding," commented project co-creator David Christensen of Clearpath Entertainment. "Now the whole world has a chance to discover and support Joel Platt's lifelong vision of Sports Immortals."
"The tour concept is absolutely amazing and one-of-a-kind. I am not aware of another collection of sports memorabilia, so extensive and rare, having been made available for public view in a traveling exhibition," said Tony Amato, President of MRA experiential tours & equipment. "This tour will allow visitors to rekindle fond childhood memories of ballgames with dad or heroes maybe long forgotten. The positive emotions stirred should set the table for unparalleled opportunities for sponsoring brands to bond with their audiences."
