Hivemyne Acquires AskMe Social Business Software in Management Buyout of Realcom U.S.
SEATTLE, July 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Hivemyne announced today that it has completed a management buyout agreement with Realcom U.S., the developer of AskMe social business software.
Realcom U.S. was formed in 2008 when Japan’s Realcom, a provider of business social media and knowledge management products and services, acquired the assets of Seattle-based AskMe Corporation. Today the AskMe product helps Microsoft, Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne, Novartis and other companies build communities and socialize knowledge across departments, divisions and subsidiaries.
Hivemyne was formed by Realcom U.S. executives to pursue the management buyout. Under the terms of the agreement, Hivemyne acquires the AskMe product, patents and customer relationships.
"We are pleased to be carrying Realcom's vision forward by offering the market the class leading solution for knowledge management and social business software," said Hivemyne chief executive officer Peter Holland.
Hivemyne will continue to provide service and support to current Realcom U.S. clients as well as market and sell AskMe. In addition to traditional perpetual licensing and deployment on enterprise systems, Hivemyne intends to make AskMe available for deployment as a subscription service in the cloud or on a network appliance.
"The acquisition of the Realcom U.S. assets is a strategic purchase for us,” said Hivemyne chief marketing officer David Wachter. “We can immediately begin marketing AskMe, an award-winning product that has helped tens of thousands of knowledge workers over the last decade build knowledge capital.”
Hivemyne is led by Holland, an executive in numerous startups including InfoMove, Teletronics Management Services, and Nexus Cellular, and Wachter, the former COO of Realcom U.S. with marketing, product and executive leadership experience at T-Mobile, Motorola and multiple startups.
