Hobart Linzer Lands Experienced Federal Prosecutor Joseph N. Akrotirianakis
LOS ANGELES, March 19, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Hobart Linzer LLP announced that Joseph N. Akrotirianakis joined the firm as a partner on March 18. Akrotirianakis was an assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California. He brings an unbeaten record in more than 25 trials to the highly-regarded commercial litigation firm and significant expertise in complicated financial fraud and corruption matters.
"Joe's trial record is the result of his significant intensity and insight," said Hobart Linzer co-founder C. Dana Hobart. "His talent will benefit our clients and contribute to the continued growth and success of our firm."
Firm co-founder Kenneth A. Linzer added: "He's the perfect match for our clients – creative, smart, tenacious and, above all, a proven winner."
Akrotirianakis' victories as a federal prosecutor include the fraud and corruption trials of an assistant special agent-in-charge at the Department of Homeland Security, the investigation and prosecution of a number of top-level city officials in Cudahy, also known as the "Cudahy Three," and the prosecution of the Mayor of Rosemead. Other high-profile prosecutions that received widespread attention involved several Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety Inspectors and corrupt officials in the California Department of Alcohol and Drugs Programs.
In recognition of his significant accomplishments during more than seven years of service at the U.S. Attorney's Office, Akrotirianakis received the prestigious Director's Award for Superior Performance from the U.S. Attorney General. He also has been honored by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Homeland Security, Postal Inspection Service, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Office of Professional Responsibility.
Prior to his government service, Akrotirianakis spent six years as a business trial lawyer in the Los Angeles office of Quinn Emanuel, a preeminent litigation firm. He is a coveted speaker who frequently lectured on law to government and police officials, and he taught trial advocacy to federal prosecutors from all over the United States. In addition, he has been published in a number of periodicals.
A member of the State Bar of California since 1998, Akrotirianakis earned his law degree from Loyola Law School, where he graduated second in his class and edited the Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review. Following law school, he clerked for Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Harry Pregerson. Akrotirianakis holds a bachelor's degree in history and political science from Whittier College. While at Whittier, he played varsity football and soccer. In 2009, Whittier College named him the young alumnus of the year.
