PLANO, Texas, May 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading smartphone e-brand Honor will today unveil plans to launch the first smartphone digital film festival. The Honor Film Festival is designed to inspire and empower future filmmakers to explore their creativity and share their stories through their smartphone lens—a device they use every day.
Kicking off May 12, the film festival will partner with Owltainment, a film production company founded by two aspiring New York University graduates to showcase six films captured entirely by smartphones. The films will be featured, one a week for six weeks, on hihonor.com/hff. In addition to the film showcase, Honor is asking aspiring filmmakers to submit story concepts for a digital short focusing on the theme "You Are in Charge," a reference to today's millennials as brave, creative and energetic forces for change.
From the submitted story concepts, one winner will be selected to adapt their story into a three-minute short smartphone film. Professor Karl Bardosh, a mobile phone cinema pioneer and associate professor from New York University, will provide mentoring and support. The winner will also receive a $5000 USD cash prize, a $20,000 production budget and an Honor phone.
In addition to Professor Bardosh, the Honor Film Festival jury selecting the winning story from the top 10 submissions will be comprised of industry leaders, including Eva Cao, writer, producer and founder of Supernovo Entertainment; Robert Powers, associate director of global business and technology strategy for Twentieth Century FOX; and Max Epstein, vice president of content strategy for DMG Entertainment.
"We are thrilled to present our first digital film festival," said James Jiang, head of Honor USA. "Youth have the power to change and influence what is most important. With the Honor Film Festival we aim to create a platform where youth are inspired to use our products to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary."
