SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif., Aug. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Hortau, a provider of precision irrigation management systems and services for agriculture since 2002, has announced the hiring of Trevor Mecham as its Vice President of Business Development.
Mecham will be in charge of developing new ventures, partnerships and additional revenue streams for Hortau within the agriculture industry.
Mecham comes to Hortau with a wealth of experience in the ag sector, starting with his roots growing up on a family farm in Southern Idaho, followed by 20 plus years in the precision ag and tech industries working in various capacities with John Deere, Leica Geosystems, CNH Industrial and Uptake.
"We're excited about the experience and precision agriculture background Trevor brings to Hortau," said Hortau CEO and co-founder Jocelyn Boudreau. "He has already been a great fit for our company, and his direction and network of influencers in the industry will help take Hortau's platform to the next level."
Mecham started his career in global positioning system (GPS) precision ag working at a Silicon Valley startup, at a John Deere dealership as GPS coordinator, and at Leica Geosystems – where he participated in the development of the company's precision agriculture products, including SaaS telematics services.
He then spent five years at CNH Industrial as Director of Precision Solutions and Telematics. Before joining Hortau, Trevor was VP of Agriculture and Construction verticals at Uptake, a fast-growing data analytics company.
"I'm thrilled to be joining the Hortau team, and to be helping farmers in North America and beyond grow more with less resources in the face of today's agricultural challenges," Mecham said. "I'm excited to be part of the difference Hortau is making today, and the prospects of guiding Hortau through the significant potential it has in its next stage of growth."
Hortau's crop stress management platform reports to growers how crops are faring in real time – before stresses such as drought or lack of aeration can have a negative impact on a crop. This proprietary, plant-centric approach measures plant stress using soil tension, ensuring optimal crop growth, and reducing water and energy consumption, as well as environmental impacts such as leaching.
