Hotel prices were based on the latest Hotels.com Hotel Price Index™ (HPI®), which tracks real prices paid per room by Hotels.com customers during the first half of 2012 and compares that data with the same period in 2011. Football ticket prices were based on average prices on StubHub.com during September 2012.
Jacksonville led the way as the most affordable road trip, with the average cost of two football tickets and a one night stay of $196. The central region offers the most bargains, with St. Louis, Detroit and Kansas City all seeing average ticket prices of $71 or less, and room rates under $105. Other Central cities such as Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Cincinnati and Cleveland also offer fans an opportunity to go to a game and stay the night for $276 or less.
"Although North American hotel prices are up 5 percent from 2011, there are still great values to be had for the wanderlust traveler who is a passionate sports fan," said Victor Owens, vice president and general manager, Hotels.com North America. "As the StubHub data shows, there are plenty of affordable ways that football fans can see their favorite team play out-of-market."
In addition to Jacksonville in the Southern region, fans can also catch a game in Tampa for a total cost of $294. In the Western region, fans can venture to Phoenix for $302 or San Diego for $309.
