Hotels.com Expands Annual Fairway to Wellness Charity Golf Tournament with New Beneficiary Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
DALLAS, Sept. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Hotels.com® today announces St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as the newest beneficiary for its annual Fairway to Wellness Golf Tournament. St. Jude joins American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association as benefactors for the second annual event to be held Thursday, October 3rd at Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine, Texas.
The Hotels.com Fairway to Wellness Charity Golf Tournament's mission is to spread awareness about diabetes, cancer, and deadly childhood illnesses. Last year, through generous support from Hotels.com vendors, partners and affiliates, more than $60,000 in net proceeds was raised for participating charities.
"We had an overwhelming response to our first event," said Matt Goynes co-founder of Fairway to Wellness. "We're excited to continue our efforts toward building awareness and raising funds to help eradicate diabetes and cancer. Plus, thanks to our presenting sponsor Hotel Planner.com, we've now aligned with St. Jude to contribute funds for pediatric cancer and children with other catastrophic diseases."
The tournament began in 2012 as the brainchild of Hotels.com employees who have been affected by cancer and diabetes. Employees from the Hotels.com Dallas headquarters will volunteer in organizing the event and proceeds will support the work of these non-profit organizations.

About the American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation's largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing about $3.6 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 12 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year. To learn more about us or to get help, call us any time, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345 or visit cancer.org.
About St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Since opening more than 50 years ago, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has changed the way the world treats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. No family ever pays St. Jude for the care their child receives and, for every child treated here, thousands more have been saved worldwide through St. Jude discoveries. The hospital has played a pivotal role in pushing U.S. pediatric cancer survival rates from 20 to 80 percent overall, and is the first and only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children. It is also a leader in the research and treatment of blood disorders and infectious diseases in children. St. Jude was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, who believed that no child should die in the dawn of life.
