Hotwire Reveals Hotel Rate Report for May 2010
San Diego Tops the List for Second Month in a Row
SAN FRANCISCO, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Hotwire.com®, a leading discount travel site, today announced the results of the May 2010 Hotwire® Hotel Rate Report. This monthly report features the top 10 cities in North America where hotel rates have dropped the most. When combined with Hotwire's already discounted prices, the Hotel Rate Report helps guide customers to the destinations that will maximize their travel dollars. San Diego takes the number one spot for the second consecutive month with a six percent drop while the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area and Houston take the number two and three spots (six percent and five percent drops).
As vacationers get ready to enter the 2010 summer travel season, large year-over-year discounts are getting harder to find. The good news is that last year was truly full of amazing bargains in the most desirable destinations. So when prices this year start looking the same as they did last year, it just means that those same deep discounts are still available now. What's even better for consumers is that some cities are still managing to drop prices even further, making the deals that much better.
Hotels in sunny San Diego continue to reduce prices to attract leisure travelers to offset less than expected business traffic this year. Also dealing with less convention business is Houston, where rates continue to fall, resulting in great deals for those looking to spend a beautiful spring in the country's fourth largest city.
When compared to the same time last year, the top 10 hotel price reductions for May 2010 include:

"In general, hotel prices are still far lower than they were before the recession," said Clem Bason, President of the Hotwire Group. "The travel industry may be showing some early signs of stabilization, but Hotwire is still seeing amazing values around the world, and that trend should definitely continue."

About the Hotwire Hotel Rate Report
The Hotwire Hotel Rate Report will run results during the first week of each month. Results are calculated by looking at Hotwire stay dates for select regions in the current month, and comparing prices in the current month against Hotwire prices in the same month in the prior year. Prices are compared within the same star rating categories for consistency, and the percent change in price for each region is generated as an overall average of the changes in those categories. The prices in the chart above are examples for a particular star rating category within that market, and actual prices may be higher or lower than the example that is provided.
