Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania Calls on House Leaders to Return to Harrisburg to Act on Important Housing Bills
HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 5, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Important legislation to fight the shortage of working-class housing is in jeopardy of dying unless the state House reverses course and comes back into session as originally planned.
"The Housing Trust Fund is a concept both chambers agreed on to increase the availability of homes that low-wage earners, seniors and others can afford. The House has only to return and agree with Senate changes to send the bill onto the governor. With the dire need for this kind of housing, we strongly encourage legislators to return and finish their work," said Liz Hersh, executive director of the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania.
The Housing Trust Fund would provide a way for federal housing dollars to be efficiently directed at rehabbing homes, creating jobs and affordable housing.
In addition to the Housing Trust Fund bill (HB60) the House is also poised to approve SB 1409 which provides training programs for unemployed workers.
"In this economy, we would hope that our elected officials would make every effort to help create housing opportunities and jobs. We hope they have a change of heart and hold the session they had planned to hold," Hersh said.
