Houston's Stanley Schneider Named Top Criminal Defense Lawyer in Texas
HOUSTON, Dec. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Acclaimed Houston attorney Stanley Schneider of Schneider & McKinney, P.C. is being recognized as the state's top criminal defense lawyer in Texas Lawyer newspaper's 2012 Go-To Guide.
Every five years, the Go-To Guide names one lawyer in each of 18 practice areas for the Go-To Lawyer distinction. Texas Lawyer editors chose the winners after soliciting nominations from Texas attorneys and conducting extensive interviews with lawyers and judges. The guide is included as a supplement to the Dec. 10, 2012, edition of Texas Lawyer, the state's oldest independent legal publication.
"To be named the top criminal defense lawyer in a state with so many talented and experienced attorneys is an astonishing and humbling honor," says Mr. Schneider, who is Board Certified in Criminal Law and Criminal Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
In addition to earning selection as a "Top Notch" criminal defense lawyer in the 2007 Go-To Guide, Mr. Schneider also previously was named by Texas Lawyer as one of "The 25 Greatest Texas Lawyers of the Past Quarter-Century" based on his work that not only changed clients' lives but also helped open legal defenses for others accused in Texas. Texas Monthly magazine named him one of the top 100 lawyers in Houston in 2012.
A devoted defender of the innocent, Mr. Schneider was responsible for helping three wrongfully convicted death row inmates avoid execution. He was the first Texas lawyer to successfully use battered wife syndrome as a defense, and he won the first reversal of a conviction in Texas based on prosecutors' improper use of preemptory jury challenges. He also helped a client win the first pardon for innocence granted in Texas in nearly 50 years in 1983.
Mr. Schneider's defense practice includes a focus on ensuring the justice system protects the rights of citizens accused of sex offenses – a group often shunned by the best criminal defense lawyers.
