How Klooff is Giving Underdogs a Chance to Be Pet Celebrities
Riley Li had no idea that one day he would become a pet celebrity.
NEW YORK, April 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In July 2013, a cute photo of Riley the French bulldog was spotted by Klooff's co-founder, Jane Chung, on her friend Cynthia Li's Facebook feed. She convinced Li to put Riley on Klooff, a place where pet parents can share photos and videos of their pets, like "an Instagram for pets." At the time, Klooff only had a beta version of the app, but managed to attract over 15,000 eager testers in 150+ countries.
"People love sharing photos of their pets to everyone. It just brings a lot of happiness, both to the pet parents and their audience," says Alejandro Russo, CEO of Klooff. In just 3 months, their Facebook Page hit over 1M Likes. Even more impressive was their engagement, outperforming at over 10% vs. the median 2% for companies. And that was just the start.
In 7 months, the three co-founders, Russo, Chung, and Mario Encina, listened to their fans and redesigned what was missing in the beta version:
- Top 10 List Klooff's Top 10 List features the best pet photos voted by the audience. The winning photo of the pet is shown to 1+million audience.
- Voting System Every pet has an opportunity to be 'celebrified'. Pet parents and non-pet parents have a chance to vote everyday for their favorite photo.
- Followers or Fan Base Not Needed Every photo published gets an instant view from everyone. Hassle and time-free.
"The beauty of this is that any pet has a chance to be famous, and social media allows us to venture into pet democracy for pet parents who don't have time to celebrify their pets," Encina says, referring to pet celebrities such as Grumpy Cat and Boo. Chung adds, "It works for the audience too. At the end of the day, when you're tired, you don't want to read another news headline. You'd rather see something lighter, like cute pet photos."
When Cynthia found out about Riley's rise to fame on Klooff, she was ecstatic. "I couldn't believe that overnight he had millions seeing his photo." Next step for Riley? "Probably finding him an agent," Cynthia winks.
