NEW YORK, July 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Girls Who Code and IAC today announced the launch of the first ever Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program at IAC, working to educate, inspire, and equip high school girls with the skills and resources to pursue opportunities in the technology sector. With this commitment, IAC joins Girls Who Code in its nationwide expansion to close the gender gap in computing fields.

In 2012, Girls Who Code introduced a new model for computer science education, pairing intensive instruction in computer science and exposure and mentorship from the best in the field. In its 8-week Summer Immersion Program, Girls Who Code and IAC will embed 20 high school girls from the New York City community inside the halls of IAC, where each will receive 300 hours of instruction and hands-on experience in programming fundamentals, web development and design, robotics, and mobile development.

The 20 girls in the IAC program will get first-hand experience at companies like The Daily Beast, Vimeo and CollegeHumor and meet with IAC executives that include Mandy Ginsberg, CEO of Tutor.com; Shana Fisher, Managing Partner, High Line Venture Partners; Sharmistha Dubey, Chief Product Officer, Tutor.com; Dae Mellencamp, President, Vimeo; Sam Yagan, CEO, Match, Inc. and co-founder of OkCupid; Ricky Van Veen, co-founder of CollegeHumor and Laura Caraccioli, President of Content Marketing, Electus. The program will run from July 8 through August 30.
IAC is one of nine nationwide partners in the 2013 Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Programs. Programs launch this summer in New York, San Jose, Davis, Detroit, and San Francisco in partnership with AT&T, Cornell Tech, eBay, Goldman Sachs, IAC, Intel, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, and Twitter.
