IDHEAP Offers Platform to top Researchers and Practitioners in Administrative Sciences
LAUSANNE, Switzerland, July 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
After Monterrey in 2009 and Bali in 2010, the city of Lausanne and the Institut de Hautes Etudes en Administration Publique (IDHEAP) will be the venue for the 2011 International Congress of the IIAS (International Institute of Administrative Sciences). Bringing together some 300 participants from approximately 50 countries around the globe, the Congress is the largest gathering on public administration in the world. What could be a better way for the IDHEAP, founded in 1981, to celebrate its 30th anniversary!
Top international researchers along with senior civil servants and magistrates from every continent will gather together in IDHEAP's brand-new headquarters (inaugurated barely one year ago) to exchange views on global regulatory challenges. Prominent guests include Ignacio Pichardo Pagaza, a former governor of the State of Mexico, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, president of Turkmenistan, and Denise Amyot, an Assistant Deputy Minister of Canada.
Entitled "Global problems and national regulations: challenges to regulatory strategies", this year's Congress will focus on three highly topical themes with a global impact: international water management, global migration issues and new regulatory frameworks.
In the aftermath of the Japanese tsunami and nuclear crisis, with current times also overshadowed by the popular revolts of the Arab Spring, Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi, democratic governance director in the United Nations Development Programme's Bureau for Development Policy (UNDP/BDP)and a former minister of public administration in South Africa (1995-2004), will give the Annual Braibant Lecture on "Democratic governance at times of mega-crises", which will look into the challenges facing the world today.
In addition, plenary sessions and seminars will be held on subjects as diverse as "What leadership for the public administration of the future", by Pascal Couchepin, a former president of the Swiss Confederation, "Providing for security and safety" by Professor Jacek Czaputowicz of the National School of Public Administration (KSAP) in Poland, and "Water use and international management", by Dr Mark Smith, head of the UICN Water Programme. Full details of these and the many other themes on offer can be obtained by visiting http://www.iias-congress2011.org.
The Swiss Confederation, host country of honour, will be represented by Mauro Dell'Ambrogio, State Secretary for Education and Research, Jean-René Germanier, President of the National Council and Corina Casanova, the Federal Chancellor. The host canton of Vaud will be represented by Anne-Catherine Lyon, Vaud minister for education, young people and culture.
This three-day Congress will be held in English and French (simultaneous interpreting available) and is supplemented by excursions to Geneva, Lausanne and the Lavaux region, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It is sponsored by the Swiss Confederation, the canton of Vaud, the cities of Lausanne, Montreux and Vevey, Loterie Romande, and the companies Caran d'Ache, Lombard-Odier, Marti Construction and Payot.
