Illuminate Labs Announces Launch of Dietary Supplement Product Line That Solves Safety and Transparency Issues in Unregulated U.S. Supplement Market

NORTHAMPTON, Mass., March 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Illuminate Labs is a dietary supplement startup launching with a mission to improve consumer safety in the U.S. dietary supplements market. The U.S. supplement market is essentially unregulated, because there is no pre-approval process before products are sold to consumers. This leads to significant contamination issues in many supplement products.

In January of this year, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced one of its biggest supplement recalls in history: all products from three contract manufacturers supplying over 850 individual supplement brands that were manufactured over the span of nearly seven years were recalled.

U.S. supplement consumers have no way to know if the products they're taking are safe, because the market is unregulated and most companies don't provide any product test results.

Illuminate Labs solves these issues with their proprietary testing process. After Illuminate Labs completes a manufacturing run, their finished supplements are tested by a third-party, non-profit partner laboratory called the U.S. Botanical Safety Laboratory based out of the University of North Carolina. Third-party testing ensures no economic bias.

Illuminate Labs supplements are tested for label accuracy and contaminant levels. Supplements are tested for label accuracy based on high-performance liquid chromatography testing (HPLC), which is the industry standard for botanical identity/potency testing. Supplements are tested for contaminant levels with a heavy metals test, benchmarked against E.U. limits.

Supplements are only sold by Illuminate Labs if both testing criteria are met. The test results are published on the product pages, both on the Illuminate Labs website and on their Amazon listings.

The company is selling herbal supplements currently, but plans to expand their product line into vitamins, probiotics, workout supplements and more. The company confirms that their testing process will remain the same as they expand into other supplement verticals.
