SAN DIEGO, Jan. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- ImPACT Applications, Inc., developer of ImPACT® and ImPACT Pediatric®, announced today it has been granted Provisional Accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®) to provide Continuing Medical Education (CME) courses on concussion management for physicians and other healthcare providers. ACCME accreditation is one of the highest CME honors. This achievement further validates ImPACT Applications' proven, scientific approach and supports the need for continuing education based on empirical data and research in concussion protocols.
The ACCME's mission is the identification, development, and promotion of standards for quality continuing medical education (CME) utilized by physicians in their maintenance of competence and incorporation of new knowledge to improve quality medical care for patients and their communities.
"CME credits are essential for practicing physicians. ImPACT Applications' training courses offer doctors a wide array of excellent options to grow their expertise," said Javier Cárdenas, MD, Neurologist and Director of Barrow Concussion Network and Barrow Concussion and Brain Injury Center, St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center. "Physicians rely on accredited CME as part of a support system that helps them continuously improve their medical practice and patient care. This new collaboration partnership between the ACCME and ImPACT Applications provides physicians and other healthcare providers with relevant, effective, practice-based CME which will ultimately benefit their patients."
ImPACT Applications offers courses in a variety of formats: in-person, live internet-based via webinars, and enduring internet material via Video onDemand. CME course topics include evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and clinical trajectories for concussion, case reviews, neurocognitive testing best practices, and intervention techniques. These courses are designed to improve patient outcomes.
ImPACT Applications' Credentialed ImPACT Consultant (CIC) program is open to healthcare providers who have demonstrated their commitment to comprehensive concussion management by becoming trained in comprehensive concussion management by completing a thorough and rigorous educational program. PhD, PsyD, MD, DO, CNP, or PACs looking to expand their skills and knowledge in the rapidly-growing area of concussion management can receive CME credits when they complete select courses. Participating physicians can gain concussion management knowledge that is not typically a part of medical school training.
"At ImPACT Applications, we focus on innovation and research. ACCME's Provisional Accreditation of our company validates the medical community's trust in ImPACT Applications' educational programs and tools as a valuable addition to their medical knowledge and practice," said Michael Wahlster, chief executive officer of ImPACT Applications. "Our Training and Education department has grown substantially, training more than 15,000 healthcare providers and offering significant resources to participants to promote increased knowledge and competence in concussion management."
In addition to accreditation through the ACCME, ImPACT Applications, Inc. is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. ImPACT Applications, Inc. maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
The ACCME and the APA join the growing list of scientific and educational bodies that recognize ImPACT Applications as an accredited continuing education organization and whose members benefit from ImPACT Applications' training and education resources. Other groups include athletic trainers through the Board of Certification (BOC), pediatric nurses through the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP), occupational therapists through the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), and physical therapists through their individual state physical therapy boards, associations, or licensing agencies.
"There are professional practice gaps in the field of concussion management. ImPACT Applications has created courses for all of our healthcare providers who work within the multidisciplinary concussion protocol teams to fill in the gaps," added Chief Training & Education Officer Labiba Russo. "As the ACCME so aptly affirms, the fields of medicine and science never stop moving forward—and neither should physicians."
