Turner to Cezanne, May 16 - August 8, 2010

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Albuquerque Museum of Art & History (www.cabq.gov/museum/) will open the doors to a special exhibition on Sunday, May 16th when the works of famed Impressionists like Renoir, Manet, Cezanne, van Gogh, Pissarro and Monet will be on display. The exhibition, entitled Turner to Cezanne, features a total of 53 stunning works, many by artists who defined the revolutionary style developed in the mid-1800s.

The collection is from National Museum Wales, known for having one of the finest Impressionist art collections in Europe. Assembled between 1908 and 1923 by sisters Gwendoline and Margaret Davies, the on-loan collection includes masterpieces by both well-known and lesser-known, exceptional, artists from that period. Highlights include Renoir's famous La Parisienne, which was included in the first show of Impressionism in 1874, a Monet Water Lilies, and van Gogh's panoramic Rain-Auvers, painted during the last week of the artist's life.  Equally stunning, but perhaps less well-known by American audiences, are works by Turner, Corot, Daumier, Millet and Berthe Morisot.

Albuquerque (www.ItsATrip.org) is the last stop on a national tour that has included the Columbia Museum of Arts in Columbia, SC, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, The Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, NY, and the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC.

"We are honored to be selected as one of five cities in the United States to host this important and unprecedented exhibition, giving visitors from around the Southwest the chance to see incredibly beautiful works of art by some of the world's greatest Impressionists and Post-Impressionist artists for the first time in this country," said Albuquerque Museum's director Cathy Wright.

The exhibition is organized by the American Federation of Arts and National Museum Wales and is supported by an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities.

The Museum will remain open until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evenings through the exhibition's showing and will showcase corresponding lectures, painting classes, and concerts to accompany the Turner to Cezanne show. Additional details are available online at www.cabq.gov/museum.
