TROY, Mich., Feb. 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- There is a better way to expand health care coverage to more people and at less cost than through the current Affordable Care Act (ACA), giving consumers choice and continuous protection. A new proposal presents a powerful and effective alternative, addressing the policy reform requirements to empower the American patient and the patient-physician relationship.
The American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C. released the health care policy statement, Improving Health and Health Care, an Agenda for Reform.
"This proposal is centered in patient choice and empowerment. It looks at the critical engagement of the patient in the improvement of individual health and wellbeing for all Americans," said co-author David Wilson, of Wilson Partners.
The paper was hailed as a breakthrough statement directly addressing the requirements of improved health, health care, health care affordability and costs.
The Center for Health and Economy announced in its analysis of the proposed reform a projected reduction in Medicare health care spending alone of $1.56 trillion, compared to the current law (ACA) over the next 10-year period. The insurance coverage provisions of the proposal resulted in a projection of $350 billion in additional reduced expenses over the same 10-year period. When compared to the current law (ACA) the proposed plan is projected to lead to 16 million more insured by 2025. It will increase patient provider access by 11% and increase medical productivity by 6%.
"Employers and individuals alike should be, and I am confident, will be excited about all the opportunity this policy brings to everyone in America, without the heavy hand of government. Are there difficult problems yet to be solved? Absolutely, but no one will be left behind. At the core, the central answer is here: the empowered patient consumer," said Wilson.
