Independent Testing Laboratory Adds ASTM D1894 Coefficient of Friction Testing
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 26, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Westpak, Inc., a leading, independent third-party testing laboratory, announces the addition of Coefficient of Friction (COF) testing per ASTM D1894 to its test capability. The testing determines both the kinetic (sliding) and static (starting) coefficients of friction for plastic films, sheets and similar materials.
As part of COF testing, test specimens are conditioned in a tightly-controlled environmental chamber to specific temperature and humidity requirements per the ASTM D1894 protocol. Conditioned test samples are then mounted to a dedicated fixture coupled to a universal test machine which creates a linear force and collects test data.
"We've been testing tapes and films for many years so the COF tester complements other material test capabilities we already have," said Edmund Tang, Laboratory Manager. "Between our two sites we have six universal test frames and over 70 environmental chambers giving us lots of flexibility when we need it."
