Indianapolis CIOs Reveal Hiring Plans For First Half Of 2016

Survey Shows Database Management and Network Administration Skills Are Highly Sought

INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Twelve percent of Indianapolis-area technology executives surveyed recently expect to expand their IT teams in the first half of 2016, according to the just-released Robert Half Technology IT Hiring Forecast and Local Trend Report. This compares to 21 percent in both the previous six months and one year ago. In addition, 66 percent plan to hire only for open IT roles, 21 percent plan to put hiring plans on hold, and 1 percent expect to reduce their IT staffing levels in the first six months of the year.

"Indianapolis is starting to see increased growth in the tech startup realm, which is driving demand for skilled IT professionals, especially in the areas of help desk/desktop support, SharePoint and .NET development," said Jill Crowe, Indianapolis regional vice president of Robert Half Technology. "We're also seeing an increased need for IT project managers and tech consultants, which leads to a wider array of opportunities for talented specialists looking to enhance their communication skills while implementing system upgrades, database builds and strong user support."

Hiring forecasts are based on interviews with more than 2,500 CIOs from 25 major U.S. markets who were asked to provide a six-month hiring outlook.

Recruiting Challenges & Skills in Demand
Hiring challenges still remain, as 59 percent of CIOs said it's somewhat or very challenging to find skilled IT professionals today. They also revealed the skills in greatest demand within their organizations, which include:

  • Database management (53 percent)
  • Network administration (53 percent)
  • Telecommunications support (51 percent)
  • Desktop support (50 percent)
