SAN FRANCISCO, May 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- InformationWeek Government released this year's Government CIO 25, a list of the 25 most influential and accomplished technology leaders across federal, state and local government agencies and departments.

This is the third year editors of InformationWeek Government have compiled this distinguished list of IT decision makers, selected for their ability to drive innovation and cost efficiency, introduce new platforms and shared services, and improve cybersecurity to serve the public in the most efficient manner.

"Our 25 government IT leaders are finding ways to innovate amid budget pressures, executive turnover and compliance mandates," said Rob Preston, Editor in Chief, InformationWeek. "These leaders are masters of change. They're people who understand that doing more with less is part of the job description, but they go the extra mile to turn their budget constraints into an opportunity to deliver breakthrough products and strategies."

The Government CIO 25 includes:

  • Federal CIO Steven VanRoekel and Federal CTO Todd Park, who are setting the direction for government-wide IT strategy and investment.
  • Teri Takai, CIO of the Department of Defense, who has introduced far-reaching enterprise IT strategies at the Pentagon.
  • Robert Brese, CIO at the Department of Energy, who oversees IT policy and planning for about two dozen national laboratories and technology centers.
  • Jerome Pender, CIO of the FBI, and Richard Holgate, CIO of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, who contribute to the White House's national gun control initiative as their agencies operate computer systems and networks used for background checks and firearms tracing.
