"Tone-y-Bands are fun, fashionable, and effective," said CEO & Founder Janice Haley. "We started with certified fitness professionals in group exercise and personal training. We knew if Tone-y-Bands passed the test with them, that it would be a hit. Working out just once, the instructors felt an increased intensity in their workout and arms, and their activity trackers showed they were burning more calories. Their students began to wear them all the time – at home and the office, while walking the dog, running, pilates, Zumba, barre, aqua and even playing drums in a band. People began to use them in physical therapy or to calm tremors to assist with activities of daily living. Across a diverse group of customers, the compliments came in: "I've been waiting for someone to come up with something like this!"
Tone-y-Bands are unique in that they don't look or smell like a piece of workout gear. They look like a watch or bracelet, feel soft and comfortable, and are very easy to clean as they are made of medical-grade silicone. They allow people to tone their arms throughout the entire range of motion and leave their hands free while they exercise. It's easy to adjust the stainless steel weights to the level of intensity needed.
The official launch of Tone-y-Bands™ on Kickstarter introduces customer requested exciting bright colors to match any outfit – workout or at work. Prototype versions in black and white launched on Amazon Launchpad earned a 5-star rating for customer satisfaction and will be featured during Amazon's first ever Startup Week in Nov. 1-8, 2016.
Tone-y-Bands, now patented, were invented as a simple way to tone arms and burn more calories by adding a little more resistance throughout the day or to intensify an exercise routine. In fact, the idea came to creator Steve Haley while he was doing the dishes and laundry, wishing he could get more benefit from regular work around the house. He tried existing wrist weights/ankle weights and found them too bulky and uncomfortable to wear. He knew there had to be a better way.
Research supports the benefits of wrist weights with exercise as well as the benefit of additional arm movements throughout the day. Recently, the NBC Today show, on Sat. Sept. 24, experts were quoted about the benefit of additional arm movements throughout the day even without the additional weights. "Small movements like fidgeting and moving ones arm up and down can result in large calorie deficits by the end of the day." According to Michelle Shapiro, a registered dietitian at F-Factor in Midtown Manhattan, there has been a change in focus from exercise to more functional movements for calorie burning, mostly because many people don't have time to get to the gym. "Thinking about everyday activities as a way to help to lose weight is a breakthrough in our understanding of weight loss," she said.
