Instructure Introduces Varied Due Dates in Canvas
Canvas saves teachers time by allowing them to adjust due dates for different sections
SALT LAKE CITY, March 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Instructure has released a new feature into Canvas that allows educators to create different due dates for different student sections. This varied due date feature makes it easier for faculty to focus on teaching, rather than on configuring the learning management system.

"We built Canvas to be so easy to use that any teacher can pick it up and immediately get started teaching a course, even if they had never used a learning management system before," said Brian Whitmer , co-founder and chief product officer. "The ability to quickly create different due dates for more personalized learning experiences is something that teachers intuitively expect, but it hasn't been a part of legacy learning management systems."
In the traditional LMS, a teacher had to create a second course just to have a separate due date for that section. This led to a larger administrative burden and meant that analytics pulled from courses produced incomplete data about the entire class because of the duplicate courses created to accommodate sections.
With Canvas, teachers can now easily modify due dates by section, saving educators time, effort and frustration. Teachers can also now view an accurate picture of their class through learning analytics. The new varied due date feature represents one more step in continuing to make Canvas the flexible teaching platform for K-12 and post-secondary education.
Today more than 350 institutions use Canvas as their platform for teaching and learning. The learning management system evaluations conducted by these institutions show quantitatively that Canvas is easier to use than the legacy systems, and it is intuitive even for those teachers who have never used an LMS before.
