International Businessman Robert S. Shumake Honored for Commitment to Service
Inheritance Capital Group CEO Honored with William Malcolm Man of Benevolence Award
DETROIT, Sept. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The William Malcolm Style and Substance Foundation announced Detroit-based businessman and philanthropist Robert S. Shumake as a recipient of the 2011 William Malcolm Man of Benevolence Award for his relentless and selfless service to the state of Michigan.
The Distinguished Man of Benevolence Award was founded in 2009 as a way to thank male residents of Michigan who by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service. The award is set upon the belief that recognizing and honoring volunteers sets a standard for service, encourages a sustained commitment to civic participation, and motivates others to make service a central part of their lives. Award recipients are those who achieve a certain standard of service measured by their dedication to volunteerism and leadership to the Michigan community over the course of a year.
Robert S. Shumake is the CEO of the Inheritance Capital Group, a private equity group based out of Detroit, Michigan. A tireless advocate for community, Shumake founded the Robert S. Shumake Scholarship Relays, the largest private relay in the Midwest, serving 8,000+ participants since its inception. The annual relay draws top athletes from Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Canada. It is unique in that it awards its participants for both athletic and academic accomplishments. The foundation also sponsors the HBCU Cross Country Challenge, a showcase of individuals and teams that provides national exposure and social communication opportunities and coaching knowledge exchange. Additionally, the lauded philanthropist recently launched the Shumake & Friends Legacy Academy at an orphanage learning center in Ethiopia providing a technology center and library of hundreds of curriculum-based books for 3,000 students.
When touching on Shumake as a selected recipient, Fashion Designer and Man of Benevolence Award Founder William Malcolm writes, "Shumake, Michigan knows you as a selfless volunteer and a great reformer." He adds "You have worked tirelessly with the Robert S. Shumake Scholarship Relays to provide youngsters with scholarships to attend college as well as supported other meaningful causes proving that if people want to bring about social change they can do so."
Shumake will be presented with the award at the William Malcolm Man of Style and Substance Contest Selection Gala in November of this year.
