Internationally recognized radiologist and public speaker releases second edition of book on mind-body wellness
Author challenges conventional medicine on public speaking tour
NAPLES, Fla., Oct. 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- While the country recognizes National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, internationally renowned radiologist Thomas Hudson, MD has released the second edition of his book, "Journey to Hope," and challenges conventional medicine as he speaks on topics of prevention and self-care. Dr. Hudson, an expert in breast imaging, encourages people to think differently about their health.
"Conventional medicine is too focused on disease," he says. "Early cancer detection is great, but prevention is more important. What you eat, how you feel, and even what you think affects your health more than you ever imagined. These are the most important aspects of cancer prevention," Dr. Hudson explains. "And they're even more important if you're a cancer survivor."
Journey to Hope is a book about health and wellness—not just a book about cancer. Dr. Hudson explains what every woman needs to know in a warm, conversational style—a rare find in a medical book. The second edition includes a section on breast thermography, a screening test few conventional doctors understand.
Dr. Hudson has gone beyond the traditional radiologist's role of reading films in a dark room, communicating results only to your doctor. He has stepped out of the dark room to speak directly to you. He has stepped even farther out of the box by espousing a mind-body-spirit approach to health, embracing alternative medical views and speaking on such unconventional topics such as meditation, imagery, gratitude, and forgiveness.
Dr. Hudson is a dynamic and busy international speaker, available to speak on a variety of subjects in addition to breast health. Using insights gained from his experience in the breast cancer realm, Dr. Hudson speaks to general audiences about dealing with change, navigating a crisis, and how to make high-stakes decisions. "The skills necessary to navigate a cancer diagnosis," he says, "have nothing to do with cancer. They are the same skills necessary for success in the corporate world and in everyday life."
Dr. Hudson also offers phone consultations to help people understand their mammogram or thermogram results. "These tests can be confusing," he says. "I help people sort things out by explaining their results in everyday language." He also counsels cancer patients, offering a balanced view of both conventional and alternative medicine. He is one of a new breed of physician—kind, compassionate, and open-minded. One of his patients had this to say:
"From my first contact with Dr. Hudson I sensed I was dealing with a professional who actually cared about the patient as a person. He is experienced, knowledgeable, patient, and reassuring. It was like talking to a friend. He has a genuine way of connecting in a warm, caring, compassionate manner—qualities that are rare in today's fast paced world of medical care."
Dr. Hudson conveys that same warmth to his speaking audience. Anyone interested in having Dr. Hudson speak to their group should contact Paul Ouellette at 239-514-1478 or [email protected].
