Internet Video Quality Is a Factor in U.S. Pay-TV Subscribers' Choice of ISP Survey reveals drivers of subscriber behavior

IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- TelcoTV, the largest video conference and expo focused on the U.S. service provider market, today announced that independent research organization Heavy Reading will present the results from its fourth annual study of U.S. pay-TV subscribers exclusively at the TelcoTV 2011 conference.

Aditya Kishore, Senior Analyst at Heavy Reading, will provide fresh data as well as insight into the criteria consumers use to select pay-TV providers and service bundles. The presentation will explore shifts in consumer opinion over the past year. Kishore will also discuss customer satisfaction levels and drivers, subscriber churn drivers and the growing consumption of OTT video via multiple connected devices.

"The survey found that OTT video continues to grow in importance, with some respondents claiming a better video experience could influence their choice of ISP. Respondents also expressed interest in the integration of Internet video services into a pay-TV lineup," said Kishore. "Operators exploring their own multi-screen services, and integrating Internet services into their packages would be well-positioned to tap into this demand."

This year, the study was expanded to include such key emerging issues for service providers as in-home video distribution, remote content access, portability and video communications. It also took a closer look at OTT video attitudes, usage and influence on provider selection.

Carol Wilson, TelcoTV's Conference Chairwoman, said, "Bringing the survey results to the general session made good sense. The information presented at TelcoTV influences the purchasing and deployments decisions of digital TV service operators across the U.S."

The survey presentation session, sponsored by Pace, is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at 9:35 a.m. in the TelcoTV General Session.

"Price sensitivity remained high for the fourth straight year in the Heavy Reading U.S. pay-TV survey. Given that the economic outlook has not changed substantially, consumers want to save money on their pay-TV services," said Kishore. "But even though there's a lot of hype about 'cord cutting,' the vast majority of subscribers have no plans to completely cancel their pay-TV subscription."

The annual study of U.S. pay-TV subscribers was conducted by Heavy Reading (http://www.heavyreading.com), one of the foremost research and consulting companies in the telecommunications industry, offering detailed industry analysis to service providers, vendors, and investors. As with previous years, the 2011 study examined U.S. consumers' attitudes and satisfaction levels on a variety of issues related to pay TV and OTT video consumption.

A joint production of UBM TechWeb and NTCA, TelcoTV offers a unique venue for solution providers to showcase their new product and service offerings. The event takes place Oct. 25-27, 2011 in New Orleans. This year's theme, "Ten Years Transforming Telecom & Entertainment," reflects the strides the industry has made since the inception of the tradeshow in 2001, along with the challenges it faces going forward.
