ISIS, Ebola, Data Overload and Other Emerging Global Threats Require New Technologies and Business Models, Security Professionals Say
SAP NS2™ Conference Features National Security Thought Leaders and Partners, Including Robert Gates, Frances Townsend and John Negroponte
Promotes Training, Employment and Service Programs for Veterans
FALLS CHURCH, Va., Oct. 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- At a time when the U.S. national security mission faces unprecedented complexities -- from ISIS threats to Ebola outbreaks to Russia's political aggression -- SAP NS2™ is right for the times, delivering world-class technology solutions that improve both the mission and "business" of U.S. national security.
That was the message at today's 3rd Annual SAP NS2 Solutions Summit, sponsored by SAP National Security Services (SAP NS2), as more than 800 government technology executives, mission professionals, policy makers, innovators, and business partners heard from a lineup of top experts.
"The 'big bang' in 'big data' is making traditional IT models obsolete," said SAP NS2 President and Chief Executive Mark Testoni, a 30-year veteran of military and civilian public sector management. "U.S. national security today requires advanced tools that empower analysts and managers with real-time, multi-modal analytics of disparate data streams, all with greater agility, a smaller footprint, and lower total costs.
"Today's event was a chance to hear how our team is leveraging the same world-class technologies used by 86% of the Fortune 500 – and SAP's $4 billion R&D budget -- to meet the business and mission needs of U.S. national security," Testoni added. "And judging by our record attendance, people are taking notice."
The keynote speakers at the summit were Dr. Robert Gates, former Secretary of Defense (2006-2011), Frances Townsend, former homeland security and counterterrorism assistant to President George W. Bush, CNN On-Air Contributor, and Chair of the SAP NS2 Board.
Other notable experts included Ambassador John Negroponte, Chairman of the Intelligence and National Security Alliance (INSA) and former Deputy Secretary of State; Michael Morell, retired deputy director of the CIA and chairman of the SAP NS2 Advisory Board; Dr. Stephen Cambone, former Undersecretary of Defense for Intelligence; Jack Devine, a 32-year veteran of the CIA; Rear Admiral Michael Hewitt (U.S. Navy, ret.), former head of Information Operations for the Department of Defense; Adam Karcher, Deputy Director of the Office of Data Exploitation, National Cyber Investigative Joint Task Force; Max Peterson, Director and General Manager for Amazon Web Services Worldwide Public Sector; Terry Roberts, VP for Cyber Engineering & Analytics, TASC and former Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence; Jill Tummler Singer, former CIO for the National Reconnaissance Office; and Alan Wade, former CIO of the CIA.
Technology solutions featured at the event – all tailored to the needs of U.S. national security and critical infrastructure organizations and delivered by SAP NS2, an independent, 100%-U.S. subsidiary of SAP – addressed U.S. Government needs for real-time situational awareness; cyber security; counter terrorism; insider threat detection; critical infrastructure protection; open source analysis; secure cloud migration; cost reduction; and audit readiness.
All of these solutions are supported and driven by the SAP HANA™ Real-Time Data Platform, a revolutionary "in-memory" database and computation engine that enables major performance improvements in complex operations such as those typically found in U.S. defense, intelligence and cyber security missions. According to a study produced by Forrester Research, SAP HANA can save an organization approximately 37% across hardware, software and labor costs.
SAP NS2 also briefed attendees on its development of a U.S. federal secure cloud offering that addresses all dimensions of the cloud model, including support, operations and delivery.
"NS2 Serves" Veterans Program Enters Second Year With 100% Success Rate
SAP NS2 also used the occasion to promote the separate nonprofit it launched last year to provide I.T. training and employment assistance to U.S. military veterans. "NS2 Serves" offers rigorous training courses in SAP solutions geared for U.S. military and national security applications, leading to certifications that are valuable in many career paths in the U.S. and worldwide.
"Our veterans have done their part to protect the freedoms we value. We owe them opportunities to thrive after they leave the military," said Vice Admiral Joe Kernan (U.S. Navy, ret.), NS2 Serves Chair.
Now entering its second year, the program has helped almost 40 veterans from 17 states get a new start, with a 100% graduation rate, a 100% jobs-offered rate, and an average starting salary of $60,000 per year. More details are available at www.NS2Serves.org.
NS2 Serves is partnering with other organizations to cohost a Congressional Reception for veterans' causes on November 18.
NS2 Partners With "K9s for Warriors" to Assist Injured Veterans
SAP NS2 also demonstrated its commitment to veterans by sharing the stage with K9s for Warriors, a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity that provides service canines to post-9/11 veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress and/or traumatic brain injury. The organization aims to give such veterans "a new leash on life," empowering them to return to civilian life with dignity and independence. NS2 today announced it is sponsoring the training of a new service dog that will be provided to a deserving veteran in 2015.
