BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Aug. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- All wireless service providers claim to have the best network. But, the results of the latest scientific testing by independent mobile analytics firm RootMetrics in its National RootScore® report show there is one undisputed winner -- Verizon's customers.
The RootMetrics study is designed to replicate a customer's network experience. To do that, RootMetrics uses smartphones purchased "off-the-shelf" in network tests that spanned 265,000 miles in all 50 states from January through June 2016. Testing was conducted in smaller towns and along country roads in addition to the top 125 metro areas.
The results: Verizon was rated #1 in the national RootScore report across all six network performance categories: overall, reliability, data, speed, call and text performance.
That's a sweep.
The company was also named #1 in the U.S. in overall network performance for the sixth consecutive testing period dating back to 2013, when the studies began.
That's a six-peat.

All networks are not alike
"These results show that all networks are not the same," said Nicki Palmer, chief network officer, Verizon Wireless. "The Verizon Network offers unmatched excellence that people can count on -- the largest 4G LTE coverage, unrivaled reliability and the best speeds across the country. No one matches our Network investment, leading edge technology and engineering talent, that delivers the best experience when and where our customers need it."
- Consistent Investment: The company's $5 billion network investment during the first six months of this year helps give customers a better network experience in more places across the U.S. Verizon has now invested about $111 billion in its Network since 2000, more than any other wireless company.
- More 4G LTE Coverage: Verizon has 2.31 million square miles of LTE coverage and covers more than 312 million of the U.S. population. AT&T has nearly 466,000 square miles less LTE coverage than Verizon; T-Mobile has nearly 776,000 square miles less coverage than Verizon; and Sprint has nearly 1.7 million square miles less coverage than Verizon.
For consumers and businesses, Verizon's network delivers fast data speeds to more people across America experiencing 4G LTE technology and network reliability that can't be matched by mere advertising campaigns.
Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE, Nasdaq: VZ), headquartered in New York City, has a diverse workforce of nearly 162,700 and generated nearly $132 billion in 2015 revenues. Verizon operates America's most reliable wireless network, with 113.2 million retail connections nationwide. The company also provides communications and entertainment services over mobile broadband and the nation's premier all-fiber network, and delivers integrated business solutions to customers worldwide.
