SEATTLE, April 10, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Airports typically don't have a reputation for being a dining destination, but the Ivar's Fish Bar at SeaTac airport has proved a real catch for hungry travelers. The iconic fish bar was recently named a Top 10 Best Airport Grab-And-Go Dining option by USA Today's 10Best list, and was ranked by the Huffington Post among 14 Restaurants That are Worth a Layover. Rounding out the accolades, the popular airport location also recently won SeaTac's Green Gateway Environmental Excellence Award.
"SeaTac is one of our busiest locations," said Bob Donegan, president of Ivar's. "In the 12 years we've been at the airport, we've served more than 200,000 bowls of chowder and more than three million customers. We are proud to welcome travelers to the Northwest, as well as giving our local fans a taste of home before they set off on their travels."
The USA Today award highlights readers' favorite airport dining options throughout the country for their downright delicious fare. Together with Airport Revenue News and industry experts, USA Today nominated 15 finalists that were then voted on by readers. Ivar's was chosen among other eateries spanning airports in Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas and more. Similarly, the Huffington Post consulted roundups, travel guides and passenger reviews to generate a list of top-ranked restaurants at some of the busiest airports across the U.S.
Food isn't Ivar's only specialty though. The travel-friendly fish bar also snagged SeaTac's Green Gateway Environmental Excellence Award for its continued support of environmental objectives. The Port of Seattle will recognize Ivar's among other airport concessionaires at its commission meeting on April 25.
With these latest recognitions, Ivar's SeaTac staple has now been honored 17 times, between national airport dining ranking lists and various awards. Past honors have included a spot on Frommer's 10 Best U.S. Airport Restaurants (2011), the Top 10 Airport Restaurants list by the popular "The Points Guy" (2012), and in 2013, a featured favorite spot on travel tastemaker Anthony Bourdain's The Layover, showing on the Travel Channel.
