Jack Cooper Volunteers Improve Area Non-Profits During Its Inaugural Company Volunteer Day
ATLANTA, July 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Jack Cooper Holdings Corp. (the "Company" or "Jack Cooper"), the leading over-the-road finished vehicle logistics company in North America, specializing in light vehicle transportation and logistics services, today announced that it successfully completed its inaugural Jack Cooper Volunteer Day event. While community service and volunteering has long been a practice of Jack Cooper employees, July 21, 2014 marked the largest single-day volunteer day for the Company. The Company announced that Volunteer Day would be its inaugural event in which all employees in its Kennesaw and Atlanta offices were offered a paid opportunity to work with selected organizations within their community.
"Working to make a positive impact on the communities we serve has long been a part of the Jack Cooper culture," said Sarah Amico, Executive Vice Chairman of the Company. "Responsibility and integrity are two of our core values so we take great pride in our ability to set aside time to get out and work directly within the local Atlanta community."
Volunteer Day was established to give certain Jack Cooper employees a day to donate their time to improving their local community. In addition to Volunteer Day, Jack Cooper has generally encouraged its employees and their spouses, family members and friends to join a non-profit organization to improve their local community, including formal events via the Company's "Cooper Cares" initiatives in its Kansas City, Missouri, corporate headquarters.
"We think a great deal about the impact we have on our communities, particularly through our more than 4,500 employees," said Mike Riggs, Chairman of Jack Cooper. "Our hope is that this event affords our Company yet another way to make lasting improvements in the communities in which we live and work. Over time, we would like to expand our Volunteer Day event. The broader the participation, the bigger the contribution we can make to the communities we have called home – in some cases for over 85 years."
At the MUST Ministries, volunteers surpassed their goal of 500 meals and assembled over 1,200 meals for homeless families and for the "Summer Lunch" program that feeds kids at incredible risk of going hungry during the summer months. At the Veterans Administration Medical Center of Atlanta, volunteers hosted a BINGO game event for veterans and their family members. Volunteers also spent time with wounded and elderly veterans. At PAWS Atlanta, volunteers painted the lobby, planted trees in a memorial garden, assisted in the upkeep of the charity's four-acre property in Atlanta, walked rescue dogs, socialized with shelter cats, and even adopted one shelter pet. At Flowering Branch Children's Home, volunteers completed home improvement and repair projects, took 13 foster kids to a private movie screening, and brought supplies and personal care necessities for the resident children.
