CARLSBAD, Calif., Aug. 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Jenny Craig, a leading weight loss program, announced today it has joined hands with Solera Health, a technology-enabled personalized preventive health network, to help people living with prediabetes reduce their risk for developing type 2 diabetes. As a result of the Jenny Craig relationship, Solera will now offer at-risk patients even greater choice when it comes to selecting a proven weight loss and lifestyle modification solution for better long-term health outcomes.
Under the terms of the partnership, Jenny Craig will join Solera's growing national health network of Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-recognized digital health and community-based Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) providers. Now, Jenny Craig's one-on-one personal weekly consulting will be made available to eligible patients as an Affordable Care Act (ACA) covered benefit.
"Our clinically-proven program helps those who are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes," said Monty Sharma, President and CEO of Jenny Craig. "We are excited to be working with Solera Health to help fight the onset of type 2 diabetes. We know that if we catch prediabetes early enough, we can stop the progression to type 2 and Jenny Craig is proud to be part of the fight."
Prediabetes is a serious medical condition affecting one in three American adults that can increase a person's risk of developing type 2 diabetes, as well as diabetes-related conditions such as heart disease and stroke. Without lifestyle changes to improve their health, 15% to 30% of people with prediabetes will develop type 2 diabetes within five years1. According to the National Diabetes Statistics report, with changes in diet and increased physical activity, prediabetes can be reversed2.
"Solera Health was launched to help members select the best approach to diabetes prevention based on their individual health needs and lifestyle preferences, which we believe has a significant impact on patient engagement and outcomes. With the addition of the Jenny Craig program to our network of DPP providers, members who prefer individual counseling and need the support of structured meal planning have yet another option to choose from," said Brenda Schmidt, CEO of Solera Health.
