Jersey Shore University Medical Center Welcomes New Medical Director Of Robotic Surgery
NEPTUNE, N.J., Oct. 11, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Jersey Shore is proud to announce Michael Lasser , M.D. as the new medical director for the Center for Robotic Surgery at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Robotic Surgery is a breakthrough, effective, minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery, and is revolutionizing the way physicians perform certain complex procedures.
Dr. Lasser most recently completed his Fellowship training in Robotic and Laparoscopic Urologic Surgery and Endourology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center in New York, New York. He completed his internship in general surgery and his urology residency at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Rhode Island Hospital, both in Providence, Rhode Island. Dr. Lasser attended UMDNJ - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where he received the prestigious Excellence in Surgery Award and was elected into selective medical honor societies, including Alpha Omega Alpha . As a highly-regarded expert in the field of robotic surgery and urology, Dr. Lasser has presented at numerous national and international meetings.
Robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery entails the use of a surgical robot to facilitate the performance of complex operations without the need for a large incision. By combining robotics and state-of-the-art computer technology, surgeons can operate with greater dexterity and control than is possible with traditional surgical approaches. In addition to a quicker recovery time, other potential benefits of robotic surgery include less blood loss, reduced postoperative pain, and reduced risk for infection.
According to Jerome Vernick , M.D., chair, department of surgery at Jersey Shore, "We are delighted to welcome Dr. Lasser to Jersey Shore as our new medical director of the Center for Robotic Surgery. Robotic surgery is an exciting, rapidly evolving medical field, and with Dr. Lasser's expertise, we will continue to expand our surgical subspecialty programs in key areas, including partial nephrectomy, prostatectomy and other urological conditions."
