Jesse McCartney Teams Up With Detroit Pistons Legend Vinnie Johnson To Help Students Make the Grade
WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- High School Students from throughout the tri-county area are urged to attend a FREE "Orientation Concert" to be given by singer/songwriter Jesse McCartney. The event is to be held at West Bloomfield High School Gymnasium on Tuesday October 12th at 4pm. Pistons great Vinnie Johnson along with former Michigan Wolverine football player Ronald Bellamy and a group of parents have teamed together to kick off what they are calling, TEXT THE PLEDGE.
Thousands of Students are urged and expected to go to textthepledge.com and sign up for this unique program which urges and rewards good grades, citizenship and student involvement. Contests are between area schools to win prizes, including celebrity appearances, and more prizes over the course of the school year. Money to back this program is being raised right now through private and corporate donations.
In order to qualify, students will need to maintain a specific minimum GPA and sign a pledge promising to adhere to other important principles.
The program begins October 12th, to be held at West Bloomfield High School with special performances by Jesse McCartney, Brilliance and Infinity Hour. Detroit's own Brilliance and Jeff Bass Music recorded a special song that will be used as the theme for the Text The Pledge campaign. The theme song promotes the key elements of the pledge. Improving grades, increasing school involvement and conducting yourself in a manner consistent with the student code of conduct, especially anti-bullying.
Students that succeed in accomplishing the goals of the pledge will be eligible to attend the "Final Exam" concert in the spring featuring National Recording Artists at a yet to be determined major venue.
Radio station Channel 955 is one of the sponsors behind Text The Pledge and Morning Man Mojo says, " As a proud parent as well as a host, it is important to reward our kids for good behavior which includes good grades and being alcohol and drug free".
Vinnie Johnson and Ronald Bellamy came up with the idea for Text The Pledge while discussing the lengths kids will go for something they are passionate about like sports and the need for them to be more motivated in the classroom
