John Clancy Named President and CEO of Azuki Systems
Former Iron Mountain Digital President to Extend Azuki's Momentum in Mobile Media Market
ACTON, Mass., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Azuki Systems, Inc., an innovator powering a new generation of mobile media, today announced that John Clancy has joined as president and chief executive officer. Clancy joins Azuki from Schooner Capital where he served as CEO in residence, advising portfolio companies on growth strategies, while identifying new technology investment opportunities. He came to Schooner on the heels of developing and building the Iron Mountain Digital business unit where he served as president.
"John is widely known in the industry for his leadership, operational excellence and track record of building high growth businesses," said Cheng Wu, chairman of Azuki. "He joins Azuki at the ideal time, as consumers embrace new mobile technologies on pace with device proliferation. We look forward to leveraging his experience in growing innovative technologies into industry leaders as we build Azuki to lead this quickly evolving mobile media market."
Clancy's experience in building top performers spans a number of world leading technology companies. Through his work as president of Iron Mountain Digital, the technology arm of Iron Mountain, Clancy developed and drove the strategy and execution of the digital business unit, now a worldwide leader in cloud-based SaaS services for data protection, archiving and eDiscovery. Prior to Iron Mountain, he was chief operating officer of Connected Corporation, a SaaS pioneer and worldwide leader in PC data protection. Previously, Clancy served as Connected's senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing. In addition he has held senior sales management positions at SilverStream Software, and the Merisel Open Computing Alliance. He holds a B.A. in political science from Assumption College.
"Mobile has quickly become the de facto first screen for many consumers – and they expect to be able to replicate the PC experience on a mobile device. Couple that with the massive growth in the number and variety of mobile devices, operating systems and proprietary technologies and we find an immense market opportunity for Azuki," said Clancy. "Azuki is poised to capitalize on this market, which is desperately in need of an open, cross platform provider that can deliver rich, protected content with an exceptional viewing experience regardless of device, operating system or network. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to build on Azuki's traction to date and lead the company to new levels of market success."
Media consumption on mobile devices is on a steep upward trajectory as consumer habits change and mobile devices proliferate. IDC reports that smartphone sales were up 39 percent in Q4 2009 and just this month, Apple reported 3.27 million iPad unit sales. From a consumer standpoint, a recent Pew Internet & American Life Project Survey showed that 38 percent of U.S. adults now access the Internet via mobile phone and 20 percent of users watch videos from their handheld devices. Azuki makes this conflux possible by providing a sophisticated and reliable infrastructure that delivers high quality rich media to consumers over any device or wireless network. Azuki powers mobile media for some of today's top media and publishing companies including CBS, FOX News Corporation, Sony Music, Sony Pictures, Sports Illustrated, Time Warner and Sprint.
