OMAHA, Neb., April 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Johnny "The Jet" Rodgers National College Football Return Specialist Award ceremony is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at Metropolitan Community College's Swanson Conference Center located at 32nd and Sorensen Parkway, Omaha, Neb.
Lynn Swann, Hall of Famer and current athletic director at the University of Southern California, is this year's "Jet Award" guest speaker.
The 2016 season "Jet Award" winner is Adoree Jackson from the University of Southern California and the "Legacy Award" winner is Rick Upchurch from the University of Minnesota.
"The Jet" Award recognizes the nation's best college return specialist and is named for Johnny "The Jet" Rodgers, the 38th Heisman Trophy winner and first Heisman winner from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The "Legacy Award" honors veteran college football return specialists.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the Johnny Rodgers Career and Technical Education Scholarship fund at Metropolitan Community College.
"It is such an honor to celebrate the achievements of college football greats Adoree Jackson and Rick Upchurch," said Rodgers. "Their incredible on-field accomplishments will not only be highlighted at the event, but will live on through opportunities provided to low-income and first generation students entering the trades programs at Metropolitan Community College."
Additional celebrity guests attending the ceremony include Greg Pruitt, University of Oklahoma All-American; Eric Crouch and Mike Rozier, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Heisman Trophy winners; Richie Glover, 1972 Outland Trophy winner and Lombardi Award winner; Daryl White and Calvin Jones, University of Nebraska-Lincoln All-Americans, and many others.
