Doug Hall, The Whitlock Group's CEO, commented, "It's very rare in our industry to find an executive with such strong common operating philosophies that also brings unique experience and perspective to an established organization and culture. And having that person from another continent makes this situation even more unique. The opportunity to work closely with Julian over the past few years -- collaborating on best practices and promoting global standards to our mutual GPA clients -- has reinforced our great synergies and confidence that Julian will be successful in growing The Whitlock Group in key markets and geographies."
As a founding member and inspiration of the Global Presence Alliance (GPA), Julian will be based in The Whitlock Group's Philadelphia office and work closely with Rich Williams, Director of Managed Services, to accelerate the company's growth and infrastructure investments in this area. Currently, under Williams' leadership, The Whitlock Group provides ongoing service and support for more than 300 customers in more than 400 domestic and overseas locations, including Microsoft, GlaxoSmithKline, Boeing, Verizon, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Chevron, Lockheed Martin, Grant Thornton and RIM. This includes rapid growth in the areas of full-time, on-site staffing and global support agreements.
Prior to this announcement and his transition to The Whitlock Group and the United States, Julian had worked very closely to strengthen Impact's management team through the appointment of two IT / Telecoms executives, Terry Wilson from Dimension Data and Verizon / BT veteran Malcolm Savage as Sales Directors. This will facilitate continued chemistry and partnership between Impact, The Whitlock Group and the GPA (www.global-presence.org) affiliates from other countries.
The hiring of Phillips is a reflection of John Whitlock's belief in attracting and retaining the industry's most talented people. At Impact's helm since 2007, Phillips has brought improved standards and new investment to help position the company as a market leader in AV/IT innovation and service delivery, as well as helping to form the Global Presence Alliance (GPA) with The Whitlock Group in 2008. Before joining Impact, Julian was delivering digital media services at UK news organization Trinity Mirror Group and previously held senior management positions at both Dell Computers and mobile telecoms provider Orange.
"Julian has always impressed me with his industry knowledge and the innovative practices he's developed specifically to grow Impact's managed services business. When Julian spoke at The Whitlock Group's last two InfoComm meetings, he truly inspired our sales and engineering teams. I was also able to witness how well respected he was by his Impact team at this year's InfoComm Europe. Julian understands the value that The Whitlock Group places on our team culture -- and he's excited to become part of our growing organization," adds Mr. Hall.
Commenting on the big move to the U.S., Phillips says, "My family and I have always held an ambition to live and work abroad and have an affinity for the U.S. I've built a strong professional and personal relationship with the Whitlock team through the foundation and growth of GPA and this is an opportunity of a lifetime. I'm delighted that I'll be able to continue my close working relationship with the team at Impact through the GPA and our joint global customers."
Phillips holds a Bachelor's in History and Politics from the University of Warwick and is a graduate of the Dell Management University. A keen cricket player, he has been lured to the Keystone state as the "home of American cricket," but nevertheless promises to take up baseball and support the Phillies.
