Justice Department Bulletin Outlines Best Practices For Professionals Who Supervise Underage Drinkers

WASHINGTON, Oct. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Office of Justice Programs' Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) today released Underage Drinking: Practice Guidelines for Community Corrections. The new bulletin provides 10 evidence-based practice recommendations for professionals who regularly work with youth who are referred to community corrections for underage drinking and related offenses.

OJJDP developed this bulletin to help with plan design for screening underage drinkers, determining appropriate responses, creating case plans and providing treatment. Community corrections officers are urged to tailor intervention plans to meet needs of participating youth, involve the youth's family and community in their treatment, and use incentives and appropriate sanctions to help youth comply with the terms of their supervision.
