OAKLAND, Calif., May 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Pharmacy Quality Alliance announced that Kaiser Permanente earned four out of the six Quality Awards presented today. This honor recognizes health plans achieving excellence in medication safety and quality.
Kaiser Permanente health plans in California, Colorado, Hawaii and the Mid-Atlantic region will receive the awards at PQA's annual meeting on May 30.
"Providing care that is safe, effective and high quality is at the core of everything we do, so receiving this recognition is an important honor for us," said David Kvancz, vice president, national pharmacy programs and services for Kaiser Permanente. "The PQA Quality Awards are a reflection of how our coordinated care delivery model promotes safety and effectiveness, supported by our electronic medical record, Kaiser Permanente HealthConnect®."
The PQA Quality Award recognizes health plans, Pharmacy Benefit Management plans and others that offer Medicare Part D prescription benefits and are high performers in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Medicare Star Quality Rating Program. To qualify for the PQA's Quality Award, a health plan must:
• Achieve a 5-star rating on five PQA-endorsed measures of appropriate and safe use of medications
• Achieve at least a 4.5-star summary plan rating
While four of Kaiser Permanente's health plans earned 5-star ratings on the PQA medication metrics that are part of the criteria for PQA's recognition for the 2014 plan year, all seven of Kaiser Permanente's regions received 5-star overall ratings from CMS.
Kaiser Permanente health plans previously honored by the PQA include those in California (2013), the Northwest (2012), and Colorado and Hawaii (2011).
