BATTLE CREEK, Mich., Nov. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Kellogg Company announced today that its annual United Way campaign generated a record-breaking $7.3 million to benefit initiatives in education, income, health and other basic needs across the U.S.
"At Kellogg, we embrace a shared vision of bringing community resources together to help improve lives," said Margaret Bath, senior vice president, Research, Quality & Technology, Kellogg Company, and this year's executive sponsor of the company's campaign. "Kellogg employees, retirees and Board members enthusiastically support United Way because we see the value of their collaborative work with partner agencies and initiatives to build and sustain a vibrant community."
The gift exceeded the company's campaign goal by 14 percent and includes individual pledges, as well as Kellogg dollar-for-dollar match of all pledges and fundraisers.
"We're grateful to Kellogg and its employees for their generous support of the communities where they live and work," said Brian Gallagher, president and CEO, United Way Worldwide. "With their support, we are transforming lives by improving education, financial stability and health for those who need it most."
During this year's campaign, 34 company locations reported year-on-year increased donations of 10 percent or more; eight of these locations reported increases of more than 100 percent. In addition, more than 1,500 Kellogg employees put their commitment to work through United Way's Days of Caring service projects to benefit nearly 25 nonprofit organizations in their local communities.
In 2010, Kellogg received United Way's Spirit of America Award for overall philanthropy, the organization's highest recognition.
