MIAMI, Jan. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Gil de Luna is pleased to announce the first US exhibition of renowned Spanish artist, Kike Ortega from February 10 to 20, 2016, at the Biscayne Art House. A VIP reception for invited guests will be held on February 9th.
Originally from Pontevedra, Spain, Kike Ortega draws inspiration from his formal training as an architect, profound curiosity in people and their emotional state, as well as his passion for the environment.
"Discarded materials, such as rusty oil barrels and potato sacks, are the canvas for many of my pieces. As an artist I feel that I must have the gift to discover possibilities where others see nothing, and exploring these unusual materials gives me ample freedom to be creative.
I allow my art to speak through its rawness and honesty using materials like concrete, metal, or wood. Each material adds value, such as a punch, warmth, or firmness. In working to balance the elements, the balance takes form and becomes part of a larger discourse."
While art may be defined in a myriad of ways, Kike Ortega's preferred definition is that "art is anything that makes something appear in a new light."
On display at Biscayne Art House in Brickell are 19 paintings and two sculptures, imported directly from Spain. Federico Gil of Gil de Luna, who represents the artist in the US, commented: "We are honored and excited to introduce this fantastic artist to the art community in the United States. Kike's unique approach and technique are fascinating and will certainly pique the interest of art connoisseurs."

About Kike Ortega
Kike Ortega started painting as soon as he could hold a brush. Upon his father's insistence he completed an architecture degree, which greatly influenced his art, combining innate creativity with process and structure. Kike's unique technique reflects his desire to innovate, impact, demolish pre-existing notions, and ultimately take risk. His creative process is a self-described dialog with the chosen materials.
