Knowledge Center Powers Philadelphia and PEMA's Emergency Management Efforts for the 2015 Papal Visit
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 25, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Deemed one of the largest national security operations in U.S. history, the papal visit has caused each of cities on the scheduled tour to make emergency management top priority, including Philadelphia, where an unprecedented crowd of 1.5M is expected to descend. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson has even designated Pope Francis' stops in each city a National Special Security Event. Knowledge Center Enterprises, LLC ("Knowledge Center") is proud to be on the front lines, powering the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency ("PEMA") and its regional tasks forces emergency management efforts, which includes Philadelphia and Montgomery County.
Knowledge Center's Incident Management System will be used throughout the papal visit to Philadelphia, empowering Emergency Management Coordinators (EMCs) to track the location of resources, collect data and document activities real-time, 24/7. The Knowledge Center tools will also allow for seamless collaboration with the Department of Health, the region's 75+ hospitals, and the EMA community. The company is also proving onsite support throughout the theater of operations for the entire event.
To ensure preparedness and effectiveness of an agency's Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), planning and testing is crucial. In a recent article published in Pennsylvania Township News, David Holl, PEMA's deputy director for operations, is quoted as stating: "One of PEMAs primary functions is to work with county and local emergency managers to ensure that throughout the commonwealth, there is a state of readiness to respond to any type of emergency or disaster." To this point, Knowledge Center's Incident Management System is the tool of record for the state of Pennsylvania and has been intimately involved in the preparation efforts, including extensive onsite training of local EMCs for the papal visit.
"To have our product play an integral role in such a historical event is a true honor and privilege. As a western Pennsylvania based company, we are proud to be a trusted partner of PEMA and its local agencies," said Knowledge Center CEO, John Degory.
