Komen Greater NYC Unveils Its "Creating More Breast Cancer Survivors" Window At Rockefeller Plaza On October 1
EHE International Donates Display Space To Raise Awareness And Honor Breast Cancer Survivors
NEW YORK, Oct. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Throughout the month of October, Susan G. Komen Greater NYC will showcase its work to save lives and eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease in a highly coveted 10 Rockefeller Center display window, showcasing faces of breast cancer survivors and providing important messages about the disease.
"One out of every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime," stated Linda Tantawi, CEO of Komen Greater NYC. "Everyone, male or female, knows someone or is someone who has been affected by breast cancer. It is an equal opportunity disease knowing no boundaries – not gender, geography, income level, or race. This generous donation by EHE International allows us to literally frame our mission to save lives and eradicate breast cancer forever."
"EHE International is proud to support an organization that shines a light on breast cancer survivors, young and old," says Deborah McKeever, President of EHE International. "It's a privilege to work with an organization that is raising awareness to honor survivors and raise awareness, so more research can be done to find the cures. They are profiles in courage of women who face this disease."
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide and the second-most common cancer overall. In 2014, an estimated 232,030 cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in the U.S. alone.
Tremendous strides have been made in breast cancer research and treatment. Over the last 30 years, the five year life expectancy for a woman who has been diagnosed with breast cancer that has not spread beyond the breast has increased from 74% to 99%.
The theme of the Susan G. Komen Greater NYC window is one of survivors. Featured in the window are more than a dozen portraits of breast cancer survivors, young and old, of many races, but all portraits in courage. These women are not just surviving but thriving, giving hope for all women who face this disease.
