KOO's Latest One-Of-A-Kind Design
MARRIOTT AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION HOTEL - EMC2
CHICAGO, June 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- KOO's latest architectural design, EMC2 is the newest member of the Marriott portfolio, a 21-story, 195-room hotel located at 228 E. Ontario Street in Chicago's Streeterville neighborhood, and one that is deeply rooted in Architecture at its core, a field that represents the convergence of art and science.
At the base, the highly dynamic entry was clad in three colors of interference-coated stainless steel panels in a pattern of isometric cube graphics that also extend the diagonal building structure geometry exposed at the terrace. The tower is a painted metal panel rain screen that deploys a diagonally oriented, large-scale legible pattern to dilute the repetitive hotel room module. On the first floor lives the Albert, a contemporary American restaurant in a soaring double height space belying the diminutive 60-foot wide by the 110-foot deep footprint of the building, and is an homage to the eclectic mind of Albert Einstein.
EMC2 is the follow-up to theWIT Hotel. The 27 story, 298 guest room soft-branded Hilton Doubletree in the heart of the Loop. Its glassy façade punctuated by a chartreuse lightning bolt secured KOO on Chicago's architectural map when it debuted. This is KOO's third successful partnership with the Lincolnshire based real estate developer, Scott Greenberg, President & CEO of SMASHotels. "The experience of working with Jackie Koo has been a wonderful alliance, from our first meeting 20 years ago, that continues to this day," adds Greenberg. The KOO/SMASHotels partnership has resulted in a perpetually evolving creative dialogue and has yielded projects that continually shift the boundaries of what is possible in hospitality architecture and design.

One of KOO's next projects, with First Hospitality Group, is a 220 room hotel at Chicago's Navy Pier slated for completion in 2018.
