Labrador Retriever Reigns Supreme Once Again in Seattle

Nationally, Labrador Retriever Remains America's Most Popular As Bigger Breeds Dominate the List

NEW YORK, Jan. 31, 2014  /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Once again, the Labrador Retriever took Seattle's top spot in the American Kennel Club's (AKC®) 2013 rankings of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds, holding strong not only in the city, but the nation overall.

The Lab was also recognized as the #1 pup in Raleigh, Boston, and Atlanta.

"In keeping with the national trend, Seattle loves its big dogs," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson.  "Bigger breeds dominated the city's top five in 2013."

Shake-ups and surprises were evident throughout Seattle's rankings. The Shiba Inu was a newcomer to Seattle's top 10, rising 13 spots in 2013 to land at number seven. The Bulldog also made strong gains in 2013, up two spots to number five. The lovable French Bulldog finally muscled its way into Seattle's top five, pushing the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel back to number six.
